State whether the following is true or false.
Intermediate filaments are so named because they are intermediate in diameter between microfilaments and microtubules.
Answer: A
At around ten nanometres they lie between the seven of a microfilament and the twenty-five of a microtubule. The name is purely descriptive of size and says nothing about their function, which is chiefly mechanical rather than to do with movement or transport.
