A reduction in amplitude of successive oscillation indicate:
Answer: C
It indicates damped vibration.
In damped vibration energy is dissipated by friction or a damper in every cycle, so each oscillation has a smaller amplitude than the one before.
Free (natural) vibration without damping keeps a constant amplitude, and in forced vibration an external periodic force maintains the motion. Neither shows the steady decay described.
