How many students in a class play football ?
Statements:
1. Only boys play football.
2. There are forty boys and thirty girls in the class.

Correct answer: Neither 1 nor 2 is sufficient
Statement 1 says only boys play, which restricts who might play but gives no number. Statement 2 gives forty boys but does not say how many of them play. Together they establish only that the answer lies between nought and forty, which is not an answer.
