A four-pole lap-wound machine with 500 conductors, 20 mWb per pole and 1,000 rpm generates
Answer: C
Correct answer: 167 V
For a lap winding \( A = P \), so the two cancel in the emf equation:
\[ E = \frac{P\Phi ZN}{60A} = \frac{\Phi ZN}{60} = \frac{0.020 \times 500 \times 1000}{60} \approx 167 \text{ V} \]Note how the pole number drops out entirely for a lap winding: the emf depends only on flux per pole, conductors and speed.
