A person travels 18 Km due East, then 15 Km due South, after that 15 Km due North and finally 12 Km due West. How far is he from the starting point ?
Answer: A
He is 6 Km from the starting point.
Combine the movements along each direction separately:
\[ \begin{aligned} \text{East-West} &: 18 - 12 = 6\ \text{km East} \\ \text{North-South} &: 15 - 15 = 0 \end{aligned} \]
The southward and northward legs cancel, so he ends 6 km due east of the start. 33 km and 60 km add up distances travelled instead of the displacement, and 12 km is the length of the westward leg alone.
