A boy rode his bicycle Northward, then turned left and rode 1 km and again turned left and rode 2 km. He found himself 1 km west of his starting point. How far did he ride northward initially?
Answer: B
Correct answer: 2 km
After riding north he turns left to go 1 km west, then left again to go 2 km south. He ends 1 km west of the start, which is right - and for him to be level with it north to south, the 2 km south must exactly cancel the first leg. So he rode 2 km northward.
