In the morning, from Point A, a man started walking 10 m towards the direction of the Sun, and then took a right turn and walked 10 m. Again, he took a right turn and walked 10 m, and then took another turn in the left direction and walked 10 m. After this, he walked 20 m towards the direction of the Sun, and finally walked 20 m towards the north direction. In what direction and at what distance is he now from his initial point?
Answer: A
He is 20 m east of the starting point. In the morning the Sun is in the east, so the first walk is 10 m east. A right turn from east faces south, so he walks 10 m south. A right turn from south faces west, so he walks 10 m west. A left turn from west faces south, so he walks 10 m south. Then 20 m east, and 20 m north. East-west total: \(+10 - 10 + 20 = 20\) east. North-south total: \(-10 - 10 + 20 = 0\). So he is 20 m due east of A. The 20 m west and the 10 m options come from taking a wrong turn direction at one of the turns.
