A number when divided by 80 leaves remainder 20. What is the remainder when the same number is divided by 16?
Answer: C
The remainder is 4.
The number is \(80k + 20\). Since 80 is a multiple of 16 (\(80 = 5 \times 16\)), \(80k\) leaves no remainder on division by 16, so the remainder comes from 20 alone.
\[ 20 = 16 + 4 \]
For example, 100 divided by 16 leaves 4, and so does 180. The trick works because 16 divides 80.
