Association of histones H1 with nucleosome shows
Answer: D
Correct answer: the condensation of DNA into chromatin fibre
H1 is the linker histone. It binds where the DNA enters and leaves the nucleosome core, seals the two turns in place, and draws neighbouring nucleosomes together - folding the “beads on a string” into the compact 30 nm chromatin fibre. Its presence therefore marks condensation, not the opening that transcription or replication requires.
