Which of the following is NOT a consequence of cavitation in pumps?
Answer: B
An increase in pump discharge pressure is not a consequence of cavitation. Cavitation is the formation and collapse of vapour bubbles in a pump when the local pressure falls below the vapour pressure. It causes noise and vibration, a fall in efficiency and head, and pitting on the impeller surface, so options A, C and D are consequences, and the discharge pressure falls and not rises.
Cavitation also lowers the head and flow because vapour bubbles fill part of the impeller passages, the opposite of a rise in discharge pressure.
