A body contains 20 per cent water on a dry basis. What is that on a wet basis?
Answer: C
Twenty parts of water to a hundred of dry solids is 20 in 120, which is about 16.7 per cent of the total. Confusing the two bases is among the commonest errors in drying calculations. Stating the basis explicitly removes the ambiguity entirely.
