The first psychology department in India was established in 1916 at the University of Calcutta. 1913, 1914 and 1915 are the other years offered but the department began in 1916. The department was set up at the University of Calcutta under Narendra Nath Sen Gupta, who had studied under Hugo Munsterberg at Harvard, and Calcutta also began the first psychological laboratory in India in 1916.
