Comparing the whole building performance route with the prescriptive route of the code, the performance route
Answer: A
Correct answer: gives more design freedom at the cost of more analysis
The prescriptive route lists limits for each component and is quick to demonstrate but constrains the design. The performance route requires the whole building to be modelled against a reference, which permits a trade - more glazing offset by better shading, say - at the price of the modelling effort. Component limits generally still apply as a floor.
