Which poem begins with the following lines:
"I don't know politics but I know the names
Of those in power, and can repeat them like
days of week, or names of months, beginning with Nehru..."?
Answer: D
The poem is An Introduction by Kamala Das, which opens with 'I don't know politics but I know the names of those in power' and then lists Nehru and other leaders by name. It goes on to say 'I am Indian, very brown, born in Malabar'. The other poems named, by Nandini Sahu, Sarojini Naidu and Meena Alexander, do not begin with these lines. Kamala Das's An Introduction (1965) goes on to say that she is Indian, born in Malabar, and speaks three languages, and it argues for her right to write in English. Sahu, Naidu and Alexander wrote other poems that open differently.
