One of the following zones of electromagnetic spectrum is used for passive optical remote sensing :
Answer: B
Passive optical remote sensing uses the Visible band.
Passive sensors record radiation that comes naturally from the scene, mainly reflected sunlight. The optical region they use is the visible and the nearby infrared, which is why satellite sensors such as those of Landsat and IRS image in visible and near-infrared bands, giving the colour and vegetation information used in ecology.
X-rays are absorbed by the atmosphere and are not used for Earth observation. Microwave remote sensing is mostly active (radar sends its own pulse), and although passive microwave radiometers exist, microwaves are not part of the optical region. Radio waves are used for communication rather than optical imaging.
