Consider the following statements about a Prandtl-Meyer expansion fan:
1. The Mach number increases through the fan.
2. The stagnation pressure is unchanged through the fan.
3. The static temperature increases through the fan.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: B
The first two are correct: the flow accelerates and, because no entropy is generated, the stagnation pressure survives. The third is wrong. An expansion converts thermal energy into kinetic energy, so the static temperature falls along with the pressure and density.
