Match each Mach number in List I with the value of the Prandtl-Meyer function in List II.
List I
A. 1.0
B. 1.5
C. 2.0
D. 3.0
List II
1. 26.38 degrees
2. 0 degrees
3. 49.76 degrees
4. 11.90 degrees
Select the correct match.
Answer: D
These four values are the ones worth carrying, since almost every textbook problem is built from them. Note how the increments shrink: the first half-unit of Mach number costs about twelve degrees, while the step from Mach 2 to Mach 3 costs about twenty-three for twice the Mach number gain.
