Home Science is a practical subject: cooking, sewing, laundry and child care are skills learned by seeing them done. The lecture-demonstration combines a verbal explanation of the principles with a demonstration of the process, so learners both understand why and see how.
A lecture alone gives no practical showing, and seminars and discussions suit advanced learners exchanging ideas rather than teaching a practical skill.
