The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University is at Amarkantak.
The university was set up by an Act of Parliament in 2007 as a central university at Amarkantak, in Anuppur district, near the source of the Narmada. Its aim is to promote higher education and research for tribal communities.
Maheshwar is a historic town on the Narmada known for its sarees, Morena is in the Chambal region, and Datia is known for its palace and the Pitambara Peeth. None is the seat of the university.
