Discussion
Consider the following statements about inspection methods:
1. Each method has a characteristic detectable crack size.
2. That size feeds directly into the inspection interval calculation.
3. All methods detect the same minimum crack size.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: B
The first two are correct. The third is false and is the reason method selection matters: eddy current and ultrasonic inspection find far smaller cracks than a visual check, and that difference translates directly into maintenance interval.
