Standing order means ............
Answer: A
A standing order is a document having the terms and conditions of employment.
Under the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946, an employer in a covered establishment must frame standing orders on matters such as classification of workers, working hours, holidays, leave, attendance, suspension, termination and misconduct, and have them certified by the certifying officer. Once certified they bind both employer and workers as the conditions of service.
They are not an order of the High Court, not informal standing instructions issued by the employer at will, and not a conciliation agreement, which is a settlement reached in a particular dispute.
