Films portray women as passive object of male desire. Which media theorist introduced this concept of 'male gaze' for the first time ?
Answer: B
The concept of the male gaze was introduced by Laura Mulvey.
In her 1975 essay 'Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema', the British film theorist Laura Mulvey argued, using psychoanalytic theory, that classical Hollywood cinema puts the spectator in the position of a heterosexual man, with women presented as passive objects to be looked at.
Liesbet van Zoonen wrote on feminist media studies, bell hooks on the 'oppositional gaze' of Black women spectators, and Tricia Rose on hip hop, but none introduced the term.
