Which steering system dispenses with a mechanical connection to the road wheels?
Answer: C
Steer by wire replaces the column with sensors, actuators and a feedback motor, and requires redundancy throughout because a failure has no mechanical fallback. Electric power steering retains the mechanical path. Regulatory approval has been the main obstacle. Naming the cost of a choice alongside its benefit is what turns a fact into a design decision. The order in which the effects act is what decides the outcome, so it is worth establishing first.
