Fungi can synthesize one of the following structural polysaccharide from the beta-glucose :
Answer: B
Fungi synthesise chitin.
Chitin is the structural polysaccharide of fungal cell walls. It is a beta-1,4 linked polymer of N-acetylglucosamine, a derivative of beta-glucose, built like cellulose but with an acetylamino group at C-2.
Cellulose, the beta-1,4 polymer of glucose itself, is the wall material of plants and of oomycetes, which are no longer classed as fungi. Amylopectin is a branched alpha-glucose storage polysaccharide of plants, and lignin is a phenolic polymer, not a polysaccharide.
