Which quantity is the partial pressure exerted by water vapour called?
Answer: A
Vapour pressure is the partial pressure of the water vapour component and is denoted \( e \), while the saturation value is the maximum sustainable over a plane water surface at that temperature. Dalton's law states that the total pressure is the sum of the partial pressures of the constituents. Relative humidity is the ratio of the two vapour pressures and dew point is a temperature, so both are derived quantities. The quantity that varies and the quantity that does not are worth naming before any substitution is attempted.
