Discussion
Consider the following statements about nitrogen oxide control:
1. The catalytic route achieves higher removal than the non-catalytic route.
2. Both routes use ammonia or urea as the reagent.
3. The non-catalytic route operates at three hundred degrees.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: A
Correct answer: 1 and 2 only
Statements 1 and 2 are correct: the catalytic route reaches 80 to 90 per cent against 30 to 50, and both use ammonia or urea. Statement 3 assigns the wrong temperature. It is the catalytic route that works at 300 to 400 degrees; the non-catalytic route needs the furnace window of about 850 to 1100 degrees, since without a catalyst nothing else will drive the reaction at a useful rate.
