What does 'double burden' refer to?
Answer: C
'Double burden' refers to women doing household chores and working outside the home too.
Many women do paid work outside the home and also carry out most of the housework and care work, such as cooking, cleaning and looking after children and the elderly. Because they bear both loads, this is called the double burden. Housework is also rarely recognised as work, since it is unpaid.
The other options describe real gender pressures but not the double burden. The expectation that boys be strong, and the pressure on men to earn well and not show emotion, are stereotypes about men; young girls looking after siblings is about girls' share of housework, not the combination of paid and household work.
