In an isosceles triangle, the vertex angle is 40°. What are the measures of the base angles?
Answer: D
The base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal, and all three add to 180°.
\[ 2b = 180 - 40 = 140 \quad\Longrightarrow\quad b = 70^{\circ} \]
So the base angles are 70° and 70°.
