Which turning of the wind with height indicates warm advection?
Answer: B
If the wind veers, turning clockwise with height in the northern hemisphere, the thermal wind lies to the right of the lower wind, and since the thermal wind has cold air on its left this implies warm advection. Backing correspondingly indicates cold advection. This is one of the most useful pieces of practical analysis obtainable from a single sounding, and it follows entirely from the thermal wind relation.
