Answer: D
The idea of sustainable development was conceived by the Brundtland Commission.
The World Commission on Environment and Development, chaired by Gro Harlem Brundtland, defined sustainable development in its report Our Common Future (1987) as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The Canberra Commission dealt with nuclear weapons, and the Mandal and Srikrishna commissions are Indian commissions on backward classes and on the Mumbai riots.
The idea has three parts that are often named: economic growth, social development and the protection of the environment.
