Mongolia is a land-locked country: it lies between Russia and China and has no coast. Japan is an island nation, China has a long coastline on the Pacific, and Yemen is on the Arabian Peninsula with coasts on the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. Of the four, only Mongolia has no access to the sea. Mongolia is the largest land-locked country that is not part of a larger union, and its trade must pass across Russian or Chinese territory to reach the sea, which is the usual test for a land-locked state.
