Net metering concerns a billing mechanism for solar energy by consumers for the electricity they add to the grid.
Under net metering, a household or business with rooftop solar panels is connected to the grid through a bidirectional meter. Surplus electricity it exports to the grid is offset against the electricity it draws, and it pays only for the net amount used. Indian states use net metering to promote rooftop solar.
It has nothing to do with CNG kits, water meters or piped natural gas, which are other subjects of metering or fuel policy.
