Discussion
A ring laser gyro in a laboratory shows no output at all for very slow rotations, then responds normally once the rate exceeds a small threshold.
What is being observed and how is it cured?
Answer: C
At very low rates the counter-rotating beams couple and their frequencies lock together, so small rotations produce no beat. Mechanically dithering the block keeps the instantaneous rate outside that dead band while averaging to zero.
