Discussion
Consider the following pairs:
| List - I | List - II | |
|---|---|---|
| 1. | LCM of numbers | Product of greatest powers of prime factors |
| 2. | HCF(a, b) × LCM(a, b) | Equal to a + b |
| 3. | Composite number | Exactly two factors |
How many of the above pairs are correctly matched?
Answer: A
Only one pair is correctly matched.
Pair 1 is right. The LCM of numbers is the product of the highest power of each prime that appears in any of them; for 12 and 18, \(2^2 \times 3^2 = 36\).
Pair 2 is wrong. For two numbers, HCF × LCM equals their product a × b, not their sum; for 12 and 18, \(6 \times 36 = 216 = 12 \times 18\).
Pair 3 is wrong. A number with exactly two factors is a prime; a composite number has more than two factors.
