The Gonds number over twelve million across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Odisha - the largest tribal community in India. Gondi is a Dravidian language, and the Gond kingdoms of Garha and Deogarh held out against the Mughals.
