Answer: D
The World Wide Web was invented by Tim Berners-Lee.
Working at CERN, he proposed the web in 1989 and by 1990-91 had written the first web server, browser and the basics of HTML, HTTP and URLs.
Ted Nelson coined the word 'hypertext', Linus Torvalds created the Linux kernel, and Robert E. Kahn co-designed TCP/IP, the internet protocols on which the web runs.
The first website went online at CERN in 1991, and CERN released the web technology royalty-free in 1993.
