Integrated Circuits (ICs) are related to which generation of computers ?
Answer: C
Integrated circuits belong to the Third generation.
Computer generations are named after the main electronic component they used:
- First generation: vacuum tubes.
- Second generation: transistors.
- Third generation: integrated circuits, many transistors on a single chip, from the mid-1960s.
- Fourth generation: microprocessors built with very large scale integration.
So the first and second generations predate the IC, and the fourth is defined by the microprocessor rather than the IC as such.
