Which sounding feature favours damaging downdraughts?
Answer: A
Precipitation falling into a dry mid-level layer evaporates, cooling the air and accelerating the downdraught, which is the mechanism of a dry microburst. An inverted V profile on the sounding is the classic signature. Deep saturation removes the evaporative cooling entirely and is therefore the least favourable condition.
