The following sentences contain idioms commonly used in English language. In this context, fill in the blanks in List I using apt words from List II.
List I:
1. Luther is an honourable man. He will resort to bribery only when .......fly.
2. You can argue with me till the ........come home, but it wouldn't solve the problem.
3. Hold your ......! You have to score well in the interview as well, so don't start celebrating.
4. After wandering in the jungle for hours, he realized that they were on a wild .......... chase.
List II:
P. Pig(s)
Q. Frogs
R. Fishes
S. Horses
T. Goose
U. Cow(s)
Code: 1 2 3 4
Answer: B
The code is P U S T.
The four idioms are:
- when pigs fly: never, so Luther will never take bribes (P);
- till the cows come home: for a very long time (U);
- hold your horses: wait, do not rush ahead (S);
- a wild goose chase: a hopeless or pointless search (T).
Fishes and frogs (R and Q) complete none of these idioms, so every code that uses them is wrong.
