In RAM, 'R' stands for Random.
RAM means Random Access Memory: any memory location can be read or written directly, in about the same time, without going through the locations before it. It is volatile, losing its contents when the power is switched off.
'Read' belongs to ROM, Read Only Memory, which is non-volatile. 'Resource' and 'Retention' are not part of the term.
