The ICF focuses on Activities and Participation.
The WHO's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (2001) moves away from a purely medical view of disability. It describes functioning in terms of body functions and structures, activities and participation, along with environmental and personal factors.
Medical descriptions and the prescriptions of doctors or psychiatrists belong to the medical model the ICF sought to go beyond.
