Answer: C
India's first shale gas was discovered in West Bengal.
In January 2011, ONGC struck shale gas in a well at Ichhapur near Durgapur, in the Damodar valley of West Bengal, the first shale gas find in India.
Assam and Gujarat are India's older conventional oil and gas producers, and Maharashtra's offshore Bombay High produces oil and gas, but none of them was the site of the first shale gas discovery.
