The Department of Statistics was merged with which of the following departments to create an independent Ministry under the Union Government, which holds the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) ?
Answer: A
It was merged with the Department of Programme Implementation.
In October 1999 the Department of Statistics and the Department of Programme Implementation were merged to form the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), under which the National Sample Survey Office functions.
Departments of field inspection, information and infrastructure were not part of this merger.
MoSPI is now responsible for the national accounts, price indices, surveys such as the PLFS, and monitoring of government programmes.
