Urban local bodies were dealt with by the 74th Amendment.
The Constitution (Seventy-fourth Amendment) Act, 1992 added Part IXA (Articles 243P to 243ZG) on the municipalities, giving constitutional status to nagar panchayats, municipal councils and municipal corporations, and added the Twelfth Schedule listing their functions.
The 73rd Amendment did the same for rural local bodies, the panchayats. The 72nd Amendment concerned reservation of seats for Scheduled Tribes in Tripura, and the 75th set up rent control tribunals.
