Which of the following are not reference service ?
(i) Preparation of user profile
(ii) Initiation of freshman
(iii) Compilation of documentation list
(iv) Readers Advisory
Answer: C
The services that are not reference service are the preparation of user profiles and the compilation of a documentation list, so the answer is C.
Reference service answers the readers' questions and helps them: orientation of the new reader (initiation of freshmen, ii) and readers' advisory work (iv) are part of it. Preparation of a user profile and compilation of a documentation list are services of the documentation and current awareness type and are classed apart from reference service in the key.
Options A, B and D each name at least one item (ii or iv) that is a reference service.
