What is the difference between the number which is second from left end in Step IV and the number which is second from the right end in Step III?
Answer: A
Correct answer: 23
This machine takes the words alphabetically and pairs each with a number, the numbers being used up primes first in ascending order and then composites, and each number altered by one - down if it is prime, up if it is composite. For step 23 taken 9 for 41 hard 33 work 59 that gives for 22, hard 40, step 58, taken 10, work 34. Step III is step 58 hard 40 for 22 taken 9 33 work and step IV is taken 10 step 58 hard 40 for 22 33 work. The second from the left in step IV is 10 and the second from the right in step III is 33, so the difference is \( 33-10 = 23 \).
