The result of a SQL SELECT statement is a(n) ________ .
Answer: D
Correct answer: table
Every SELECT returns a relation - rows and columns - and that is a table, even though it is not stored. This is the closure property of the relational model: an operation on tables yields a table.
Closure is what makes SQL composable. A query's result can be the input of another query, which is exactly what a subquery, a derived table in the FROM clause, and a view all rely on. Reports, forms and files are how a result may be presented, but they are not what the statement returns.
