The ratio of isometric length to actual length of an object is __________.
Answer: C
The ratio is 0.816.
In an isometric projection the three axes are equally inclined to the plane of projection, so every edge parallel to them is foreshortened by the same factor:
\[ \begin{aligned} \frac{\text{isometric}}{\text{true length}} &= \sqrt{\frac{2}{3}} \\ &\approx 0.816 \end{aligned} \]
This is why an isometric scale is drawn with lengths reduced to about 82 per cent. 1.23 is roughly the reciprocal of 0.816, the enlargement you get by drawing true lengths instead, and 0.5 and 2.0 are not related to the isometric geometry.
