Arrange the following catalogue codes in chronological order :
(i) CCC
(ii) AACR2
(iii) Rules for Dictionary Catalogue
(iv) AA Code
Answer: A
The chronological order is (iii), (iv), (i), (ii).
- Cutter's Rules for a Dictionary Catalogue: 1876.
- The Anglo-American (AA) Code: 1908.
- Ranganathan's Classified Catalogue Code (CCC): 1934.
- AACR2: 1978.
AACR2 is the latest of the four, which rules out every code starting with (ii) or ending with (iii). The only remaining question is Cutter's rules against the AA Code, and Cutter's 1876 rules came before the joint code of 1908.
