Who coined the term 'informal sector'?
Answer: D
The term informal sector was coined by the British anthropologist Keith Hart, who used it in his study of urban employment in Ghana, and the ILO then took it up in its 1972 mission to Kenya. Keith Davis is known in human behaviour and management, Amartya Sen for welfare economics and Mahbub ul Haq for the human development index. The answer is Keith Hart. Hart's use of the term was in a paper on incomes and employment in Accra, where he described the economic activities of the urban poor outside the organised labour market, such as petty trade and casual work. This is why the name is tied to him and not to the economists listed.
